Fancy Petunias

Believe it or not, spring is finally here. I want to share some ideas for bright color annuals that will be sure to dazzle in your landscape this year. Today Southern Gardening is at Pine Hills Nursery getting ready for the warm season. Now I think everyone knows I really like petunias. Let’s take a look at some of my new favorites. The Headliner Banana Cherry Swirl petunia is a beautiful new selection. The flowers have a really unique combination of delicious colors. This starts with the soft yellow centers that radiate outwards through the creamy banana flavored…opps, I mean colored…petals. Then, each of the five petals are edged in an irregular purplish-red cherry margin. I really love Amore Queen of Hearts petunia and I’m sure you’ll fall in love too. This is a gorgeous bicolor selection. The bright yellow adds fantastic contrast to each of the up to 2 ½” diameter flowers. You don’t have to look closely to see the five red hearts on each flower. Finally, let’s talk about a heavenly beauty. Night Sky is a showy, one-of-a-kind petunia. This plant has a variable white pattern on the deep purple petals that sparkle like stars in the night sky. This new variety provides high-intensity in full sun to part shade. Remember that these plants, like all petunias, like lots of sunshine and well-drained potting mix to dazzle your landscape this summer. Now’s the time to go to your favorite garden center and get some of this great color for your landscape. I’m horticulturist Gary Bachman and I’ll see you next time on Southern Gardening.
