HERNANDO, Miss. -- Floral enthusiasts and professionals can learn how to make tussie-mussie floral arrangements and the history of these bouquets during an Oct. 10 workshop in Hernando.

The Tussie Mussie Bouquet workshop will be held at the Mississippi State University Extension Service office in DeSoto County from 10 a.m. to noon.

Tommie Rodgers, a master floral designer and master gardener, will teach participants about the history behind tussie-mussie floral arrangements, also called nosegays. Rodgers will cover where they originated, how they were used in Victorian Europe and how their popularity was revived.

Rodgers will also lead participants through creating their own small, handheld arrangements using a variety of delicate blooms and greenery.

Preregistration is required and the fee is $50 per person. Participants should bring their own pruning shears and scissors. The registration fee covers other needed supplies. The deadline to sign up is Sept. 26; seating is limited to 12 participants.

Master Floral Designers and Master Gardeners complete required educational training through MSU Extension and return volunteer service hours related to floral design and horticulture, which will benefit their local communities.
