RAYMOND, Miss. -- The Piney Woods Heritage Festival will be held at the Mississippi State University Crosby Arboretum Nov. 4 to celebrate the region’s heritage.

The 21st annual event offers various displays and demonstrations for the public. The event begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 2 p.m.

Attendees will see exhibits and demonstrations of traditional skills and arts, including blacksmithing, basketmaking, quilting, music, dance and more.

New Orleans bluegrass and old-time country band Hazel and the Delta Ramblers will perform from 10 a.m. to noon. Dancers will perform a native American Indian dance at noon. The Pineywoods Cloggers will perform at 1 p.m.

Expert Amelia Mims is among the spinners and weavers who will demonstrate their craft. She will bring several types of wheels, including an inkle loom, which is used to make belts and bands. Adults and children are invited to try this easy-to-use loom.

Cattleman Bob Rouse will display his herd of Pineywoods cattle. The breed is one of the oldest in the U.S. and is descended from Spanish cattle brought to the Americas beginning in the early 1500s.

Vendors will offer jams, jellies, baked goods and hand-crafted wood items made from Mississippi trees.

Admission for nonmembers is $5 for adults, $2 for children under 12, and $4 for senior citizens, military members and first responders. The Crosby Arboretum is located at 370 Ridge Road in Picayune.
