BATESVILLE, Miss. -- Farmers can learn about financial management and a new produce safety program during the upcoming Alliance for Sustainable Agricultural Production field day July 15.

The on-farm field day will be at the Cotton Warehouse Farmers Market, located at 550 Highway 6 West in Batesville. Start 2 Finish Community Farms’ Happy Foods Project is co-hosting the event.

Experts with the Mississippi State University Extension Service, Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station, Alcorn State University Extension Program, National Center for Appropriate Technology, U.S. Department of Agriculture Risk Management Agency, and other partners will present information on insurance, recordkeeping, risk management, financial management and new produce safety regulations.

The field day is free, but preregistration is required. On-site check-in opens at 10 a.m. The program begins at 10:30 a.m. and ends at 2:30 p.m.

The Cotton Warehouse Farmers Market sells local produce and other Mississippi-grown produce. Happy Foods Project operates a mobile food truck to provide residents of the Mississippi Delta with fresh, locally grown produce.

Other partners and sponsors of the field day include the MSU Extension Service, Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station, Alcorn State University Extension Program, University of Mississippi Transactional Law Clinic, National Center for Appropriate Technology, Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce, and Mississippi Department of Education.
