Art show depicts Piney Woods heritage April 2-3
PICAYUNE, Miss. -- Artists and craftsmen can enter their work in the Crosby Arboretum Foundation Art Show set for April 2 and 3 in Picayune.
The show will depict the heritage of the Piney Woods region, and art entries should represent the area’s features, flora, fauna and culture. Artwork showcasing the arboretum is welcome and encouraged. The Crosby Arboretum Foundation sponsors the show.
Artists can enter four categories: paintings, photographs, sculptures and heritage crafts. Sculptures include ceramics, wood carving and other art that can be viewed in three dimensions. Heritage crafts include quilts, jewelry, basketry and leather.
Students in seventh through 12th grades may enter the youth divisions of the same categories.
Awards will be presented April 3 during the arboretum’s Strawberries and Cream Festival, which begins at 1 p.m. and ends at 3 p.m.
The arboretum is operated by the Mississippi State University Extension Service and is dedicated to educating the public about preserving and protecting the native plants of the Pearl River Drainage Basin ecosystem.
