Alliance field day to meet at Mississippi food summit
JACKSON, Miss. -- The Alliance for Sustainable Agricultural Production will hold its November field day in conjunction with the 2016 Mississippi Food Summit and Agricultural Revival.
The revival is set for Nov. 17 and 18 at the Mississippi Agriculture and Forestry Museum. Participants may also attend Jackson-area farm and garden tours on Nov. 19.
The three-day event is open to farmers, teachers, school food service manager, other food service industry professionals and the general public. Summit topics include food preservation, seasonal crops, food safety, school gardens, Farm to School procurement, farmland conservation, and legal and financial planning for farmers.
On-site registration for the revival begins at 7:30 a.m. on Nov. 17 and 18 at the museum, located at 1150 Lakeland Dr. in Jackson. Local farm and garden tours will leave from the Mississippi Farmers Market at 1 p.m. on Nov. 19. The market is located at 929 High Street in Jackson.
Tickets can be purchased in advance and picked up the day of the event at the gate.
Alliance field day partners and sponsors include the Mississippi State University Extension Service, Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station, Alcorn State University Extension Program, University of Mississippi Transactional Law Clinic, National Center for Appropriate Technology, Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce, and Mississippi Department of Education.
