Alliance continues on-farm field days during 2016
PORT GIBSON, Miss. -- Mississippi farmers can learn about the Farm to School Program during an upcoming field day in Claiborne County.
The Alliance for Sustainable Agricultural Production will hold its first on-farm field day of the year at the Claiborne County Career and Technical Center in Port Gibson on March 18.
Participants will tour the school’s agricultural programs, including the garden, the greenhouse, high tunnels and pastured poultry. Farmers will get an overview of the Farm to School Program, learn about school food service needs and discover how they can serve schools. Farmers, school officials and others can participate in a networking session.
The field day is free, but preregistration is required. On-site check-in opens at 10 a.m. The program begins at 10:15 a.m. and ends at 2:30 p.m.
The Claiborne County Career and Technical Center is located at 161 Old Highway 18 No. 1 in Port Gibson.
Partners and sponsors of the field day include the Mississippi State University Extension Service, Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station, Alcorn State University Extension Program, University of Mississippi Transactional Law Clinic, National Center for Appropriate Technology, and Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce.
