Floral design workshop series kicks off Aug. 1
BILOXI, Miss. -- The first in a six-part floral design workshop series for the public will be Aug. 1 at the Coastal Research and Extension Center in Biloxi.
Long-time Mississippi State University floral professor Jim DelPrince, who joined the MSU Extension Service July 1, will kick off the series with a how-to class on flower crowns.
“All of these programs are hands-on, make-and-take classes,” DelPrince said. “I want the series to reveal who’s out there and what they are interested in learning about, so there are various topics on a variety of days and times.”
The flower crown class begins at 10 a.m. and ends at noon. Cost is $5 per crown and all materials and tools are provided. Children are welcome. Participants must preregister and pay no later than July 28. Seating is limited to 15.
Five other classes will be featured in the series.
Fall wreath making is Sept. 22 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Deadline to register and pay is Sept. 16. Cost is $25 per person. Bring wire cutters. Other supplies are provided. The class is limited to 15 participants.
Church arrangements is Oct. 3 from 2 to 5 p.m. Deadline to register and pay is Sept. 25. Cost is $20 per person. Bring pruners, scissors and a paring knife. Other supplies are provided. The class is limited to 15 participants.
Buffet design is Oct. 15 from 2 to 5 pm. Deadline to register and pay is Oct. 12. Cost is $25 per person. Bring pruners, scissors and a paring knife. Other supplies are provided. This class is limited to 10 participants.
Bring-your-own-greenery is Dec. 6 from 2 to 6 p.m. Deadline to register is Dec. 4. Registration is free, but participants must preregister. Bring foliage, a container, pruners, scissors and a paring knife. Other supplies are provided. The class is limited to 10 participants.
Centerpiece arrangements is Dec. 12 from 9 a.m. to noon. Deadline to register and pay is Dec. 4. Cost is $30 per person. Bring wire cutters and a paring knife. Other supplies are provided. The class is limited to 15 participants.
All workshops are open to the general public. No advanced training is required. All workshops will be at the Coastal Research and Extension Center in Biloxi, located at 1815 Popps Ferry Road.
Participants who register and pay by the deadline have reserved seats. Accepted forms of payment are cash and check. Classes do not have waiting lists. Participants who cancel a reservation before the payment deadline will receive a full refund.
Those who complete all six classes will be awarded a special certificate of attendance.
