NEWTON, Miss. -- Mississippi cattle producers can learn about the latest research on forage management during a Nov. 6 meeting.

The 2015 Mississippi Forage and Grassland Council Annual Conference will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Mississippi State University Coastal Plain Branch Experiment Station in Newton.

Researchers Wink Allison of Louisiana State University and Paul Beck of the University of Arkansas will present study results on grazing management systems and stocking rates for cool-season forages. A producer panel will discuss forage and hay production systems. Participants will tour the Coastal Plain Branch Experiment Station to see research projects, including stockpiling, herbicide trials and native warm-season grasses.

Other activities include a poster presentation, hay contest, plant identification quiz, and scholarship and awards presentations. Exhibitors also will display and demonstrate their products.

The conference is open to all interested individuals. Deadline to preregister is Oct. 16. Preregistration costs $15 for Mississippi Forage and Grassland Council members and $25 for nonmembers. On-site registration begins at 8 a.m. and costs $20 for MFGC members and $30 for nonmembers.
