MISSISSIPPI STATE -- The Mississippi State University Extension Service is offering white-tailed deer management workshops to give landowners and managers hands-on education on improving deer herds and hunting opportunities.

The workshops will be offered June 13-14 in Southaven at Heartland Church and July 18-19 at the MSU Central Research and Extension Center in Raymond. The first day’s session will review deer management concepts, and the second day will be a more hands-on review of management applications.

First-day topics include camera survey setup, deer nutrition, food plots, habitat and ecology, harvest strategies and predator management. The second day will focus on camera survey picture analysis, harvest data analysis, deer age measurement and wild hog management.

The workshop costs $95 per day or $180 for both days. Registration includes lunch, snacks, educational materials, and a T-shirt or cap. Professional logger program and continuing forestry education credits will be available.

There is a limit of 70 participants for the first day and 40 participants for the second day. The deadline for registration is two weeks before each workshop.
