MSU symposium offers 'escape to the garden'
MISSISSIPPI STATE -- Landscape and garden enthusiasts can get help planning for next spring from nationally acclaimed designers at a Mississippi State University landscape design event.
The 57th annual Edward C. Martin Jr. Landscape Design Symposium will be Oct. 17 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Bost Conference Center on MSU’s Starkville campus. Attendees can preregister by Oct. 12 for $20 or register at the door for $25.
C. Colston Burrell of Charlottesville, Va., will present the keynote address on shaded gardens with a focus on using native wildflowers and working with seasonal rhythms.
Industry veteran Thomas H. Eaves of Hattiesburg will share examples of his award-winning landscapes. The program includes a film featuring MSU landscape architecture professor emeritus Edward C. Martin Jr. that highlights sustainable landscape designs at the Biltmore Estate in North Carolina.

The event is sponsored by MSU’s Department of Landscape Architecture and the Garden Clubs of Mississippi Inc. to teach the public about landscape architecture and gardening.
