PICAYUNE – Music lovers and plant enthusiasts are invited to enjoy blues and jazz music during Crosby Arboretum’s fall plant sale.

As part of the Crosby Arboretum music series, Jackson native Latongya Garner will perform a blend of traditional blues and jazz at 1 p.m. on Oct. 9.

Garner gained an early appreciation for music from attending church and public school in Jackson. She spent years as a background singer for various blues artists. Her travels as a background singer and soloist have taken her as far as Korea and Japan. Her performances have been described as “soul-stirring.”

Arboretum members’ price is $5 per performance and $3 for members’ children; $10 for nonmembers and $6 for nonmembers’ children. Tickets can be purchased at the door.

The Arboretum is also holding a fall plant sale on Oct. 9 and 10. The sale will be held both days from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Arboretum members can shop starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday. There will be a wide array of native trees and shrubs, and arboretum employees will help customers choose unique and interesting plants for home landscapes. Admission is free.

The arboretum is located off Interstate-59 Exit 4 on Ridge Road, between Wal-Mart and I-59.
