MISSISSIPPI STATE -- High school and middle school teachers have an opportunity to learn how to teach financial matters during an upcoming conference in Jackson.

Teachers may attend all three days or portions of the conference to be held at Millsaps College July 19-21. "Focus on Economics: Practical Workshops for Secondary Teachers" is sponsored by the Mississippi Council on Economic Education and the Federal Reserve Banks of St. Louis, Memphis, Atlanta and New Orleans. Additional support is provided by Mississippi State University's Extension Service and Jump$tart Coalition of Mississippi.

Grenell Rogers, area family resource management agent for MSU's Extension Service, said teachers will receive information that will enhance their existing curriculum.

"Participants will learn practical, hands-on activities to help their students learn financial lessons they will be able to apply throughout their lives," Rogers said.

The free conference will provide 0.5 continuing education units for each five hours of instruction completed. A possible total of 1.5 credits are available. Each day will begin with a continental breakfast at 8:30 a.m. and end at 3:15 p.m. Lunch is provided.
