Shooting Sports, Livestock, and Horse News

4-H S.A.F.E.T.Y. News

Start preparing for the 2020 shooting sports and hunting season by practicing with an adult safe and consistent shooting skills at home. Parents if you are interested in Christmas gifts for your youth, check out Daisy as well as various bow and firearm manufacturers for special deals relating to youth involved in shooting sports programs.

We will begin the 2020 4-H shooting season in mid to late January with signups and practices. Now is a great time to talk to your friends about getting involved in this great educational and fun program. Have them fill out a 4-H enrollment form now so they won’t be left out of any events after the 1st of the year.

Volunteer Level 1 S.A.F.E.T.Y. Training

We’ve had two level one S.A.F.E.T.Y trainings over the past two months and hopefully we will have another one this winter. We have one volunteer that will be attending the Stoneville training on November 7th. Mr. David Grady will be trained in rifle and will help coach the .22 rifle program this spring.

Any adults who are interested in becoming certified must complete both the 4-H volunteer packet and background screening before you are able to register for any of these trainings. Contact us at the Lowndes E.S. office to start the process. It takes approximately 2-3 weeks for the overall process to be completed but only takes a few minutes to fill out the paperwork. Let me know as soon as possible if you are interested. Lowndes 4-H will reimburse both the background screening and training fees.

4-H Horse News

The Lowndes County Horse Arena is now available for use. To gain access, please contact the Lowndes County Extension office BEFOREHAND to schedule weekday and/or weekend usage.

Ms. Jane Noggle and the Lowndes 4-H Horse Club have held several horse show clinics over the past few weeks. If you would like to receive notices regarding these events, please contact the Lowndes E.S. office to be added to the email list
