Gamebird Habitat Managment Workshop

Want to learn more about managing habitat on your property for wild turkey, bobwhite quail, or other wildlife? If so, join us for an intensive half-day workshop on gamebird habitat management. The event will include multiple presentations on managing habitat and tips and tools for accomplishing your management goals. The event will also include a tour of well-managed sites and a prescribed fire demonstration if conditions are appropriate.

Agenda overview:

  • Breakfast (provided).
  • Presentations on effective gamebird management.
    • Managing forest for gamebirds
    • Managing fields for gamebirds
    • Using spatial and mapping resources to inform management.
    • Precision agriculture technology in conservation decision-making.
    • Predator management
    • Programs for conservation
  • Prescribed fire demonstration and tour of well managed demonstration sites.
  • Lunch (provided).

A second event will be held on the evening prior, February 23, this event will be a Gamebird Science Social: Bird Talk with the Biologist. This will be a fun and engaging event including a social, raffles, and a panel discussion with biologists. The state quail and turkey coordinators will also provide an update on populations for 2024. If you are interested in the workshop, we highly encourage you to register for the social as well!
