Happy National Seafood Month!
Did you know seafood provides many great health benefits?
October is National Seafood Month! Mississippi is proud to have a vibrant costal community supported by the seafood industry.
Did you know Pascagoula/Moss Point and Gulfport/Biloxi are among the leading seafood ports in the nation? The seafood coming out of the gulf is a major contributor to the local economy and provides thousands of jobs. I always love visiting Mississippi’s coastal cities and enjoying local seafood.
Fish and shellfish are great ways to add lean protein to your diet! It’s also high in vitamin D and is generally a low-calorie food compared to red meat and poultry. If you’re looking to eat fewer calories, consider adding seafood into your diet! Most importantly, many kinds of seafood are high in omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids help decrease risk of cancer, weight loss, improve skin quality, protect immune system, reduce stroke, and more!
