Purple Flowers

Many gardeners love the color purple in their Mississippi landscape. Let's take a look at some of the plant options that are available. Senorita Rosalita Cleome was selected as a Mississippi medallion winner in 2009, and has not looked back. Senorita Rosalita has purplish pink/green flowers and does not produce viable seeds, so there's no reseeding. The growth habit is compact being 24 inches tall and 20 inches wide. Supertunia Royal Velvet has a striking rich velvety purple color, medium to large sized flowers, and blooms continuously through the season. Supertunia Royal Velvet grows 6 - 12" high with a trailing habit, making it a great choice for the front of the landscape border. Glitterati Purple Star Penta has clusters of crisp purple and white flowers with a distinctive star pattern. The non-stop color attracts hummingbirds and butterflies. This is a top landscape bed performer in the heat and humidity of our Mississippi landscapes. Machu Morado Mexican Petunia features bright purple funnel-shaped flowers. This plant has an upright habit -- and grows 18 to 32 inches tall and spreading up to 18 inches wide and is great for hot climates and flowers prolifically when the nights are warm and the days are hotter.
