MISSISSIPPI STATE, Miss. -- High school juniors can explore health and science careers and get a jump on college during the Rural Medical and Science Scholars program this summer at Mississippi State University.

The June 10-29 program is now accepting applications until April 1. Cost is $2,600 and includes tuition, housing, textbooks, the application fee, food for weekend meals, and program and workshop materials. A limited number of scholarships are available.

Participants will live in on-campus housing and take part in practical learning activities, including telehealth, Gray for a Day, Scholars in the Kitchen, Scholars in Engineering, an injury and illness simulation, and One Health and suturing techniques.

Attendees will tour the University of Mississippi Medical Center and MSU’s physician assistant program on the Meridian campus, where they will talk with faculty and students.

Scholars also earn 3 hours of college credit in Introduction to Health Professions.

Applicants must be Mississippi residents, have a score of 20 or above on the ACT, have good grades and be completing their junior year of high school.
