GOODMAN, Miss. -- Small-scale producers can learn online marketing skills and techniques for profitable one-acre production during a series of field days at the Alliance for Sustainable Agricultural Production Farm near Goodman.

Roberto Gallardo and Lara Bowman, both with the Mississippi State University Extension Service Center for Technology Outreach, will discuss how to build an online presence through social media and websites on May 15. Participants will learn about social media accounts, processing mobile payments and other general issues. Computers will be available for the hands-on session, but attendees are encouraged to bring their own.

Other speakers will explain how to manage a profitable and sustainable one-acre farm. Topics will include basic agricultural principles and practices, practical budget and financial options and realistic revenue projections.

The field day begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 2:30 p.m. Attendance is free, but preregistration is required. Lunch and materials will be provided.

Field days are scheduled for the third Friday of each month. The last field day is set for Dec. 11.

The MSU Extension Service, Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station, Alcorn State University Extension Program, and University of Mississippi Transactional Legal Clinic produce the series. The Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce and U.S. Department of Agriculture Specialty Crop Grant Program fund it.
