MISSISSIPPI STATE -- Volunteer 4-H leaders across Mississippi will gather in late February to celebrate 100 years of 4-H, an organization dedicated to the improvement of youth.

The annual 4-H Volunteer Leaders Conference will be held Feb. 22 to 24 at Wesley Pines Conference, Retreat and Camping Center in Gallman. The conference drew 190 volunteers last year, and organizers hope to have at least one from each county this year. The theme is "Celebrating 100 Years and Counting."

"This year's conference will provide an excellent opportunity for 4-H volunteers, Extension faculty and friends of 4-H to participate in outstanding workshops, great fellowship and fun," said Harvey Gordon, 4-H volunteer development specialist with Mississippi State University's Extension Service.

Organizers are inviting all past officers of the Mississippi 4-H Volunteer Leaders Association and recipients of the Outstanding Volunteer Leaders Award to attend this year.

Conference highlights include 20 workshops, funshops, officer elections and installation, entertainment, a silent and live auction and a banquet. Eight outstanding volunteers and the Kenneth Cook Award recipients will be recognized for their service.

Motivational speaker Debra Tierce will give the keynote address Saturday night.

Registration fees vary by option, so contact the local county Extension office for details. The registration deadline is Feb. 1.
