Floral designer set to give demo, workshop March 26
BILOXI, Miss. -- Floral enthusiasts and business owners can learn from a professional floral designer during an upcoming design demonstration and workshop hosted by the Mississippi State University Extension Service.
Rachel Bond, a Pass Christian floral designer, will showcase her floral design style using diverse plant materials and traditional stylings.
Both the demonstration and workshops will be held March 26 at the Coastal Research and Extension Center in Biloxi, located at 1815 Popp’s Ferry Road. The events are open to anyone with an interest in flower gardening, including home gardeners, floral designers, flower farmers and professional florists.
The demonstration begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 11 a.m. Registration is $20 per person. The deadline to sign up is March 19. Seating is limited to 40 participants.
Following the demonstration, Bond will lead a workshop. It will be offered twice -- once from 2 to 4 p.m. and again from 4 to 6 p.m.
The workshop will teach attendees to make a floral design in a birch bark container using flowers that can be commonly found in Mississippi gardens. Participants will need to bring a pair of floral snippers. The container, flowers, and mechanics are provided as part of the registration fee.
Registration for the workshop is $95 per person. The deadline to sign up is March 19. Seating is limited to 10 participants in each workshop.
Bond is the owner and lead designer at Pine Hills Floral Design, a wedding and event florist. She is also the general manager of Pine Hills Nursery. Bond holds a Bachelor of Science from the MSU Department of Plant and Soil Sciences and is a third-generation horticulturist.
