Ag producers invited to advisory meetings
RAYMOND, Miss. -- Regional agriculture advisory groups will meet across the state next month to provide input on educational programing and research conducted by Mississippi State University.
The three meetings offer agricultural producers the opportunity to share their needs for the upcoming year with the MSU Extension Service and Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station.
The central region will hold its meeting Feb. 19 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the grounds of the Central Mississippi Research and Extension Center. The meeting will convene at the Hinds Community College McKenzie Arena at 8 a.m. The arena is located behind the center’s office, which is located at 1320 Seven Springs Road in Raymond. Northeast Mississippi producers will meet Feb. 20 from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the North Mississippi Research and Extension Center, located at 5395 Highway 145 South in Verona. Producers in the coastal region will meet Feb. 27 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Coastal Research and Extension Center, located at 1815 Popps Ferry Road in Biloxi. The agenda can be viewed on the center’s website at http://coastal.msstate.edu/advisory. Registration closes Feb. 17. All three meetings begin with registration followed by a general session. Each commodity group will then discuss their individual needs. Some of the groups include agritourism, bees, beef, cotton, equine, dairy, ornamentals, peanuts, poultry, swine, turf, vegetables, grain crops, sweet potatoes, forestry and wildlife, fruits and nuts, and goats and sheep. Lunch is provided.
