STONEVILLE, Miss. -- Rice producers can learn about the latest research on production and disease management during the Mississippi State University Extension Service Rice Producer Field Day Aug. 2.
The program will begin at 3 p.m. at the Charles W. Capps Jr. Entrepreneurial Center at the Delta Research and Extension Center in Stoneville. The three-hour event includes field tours of research plots with MSU rice researchers.
Featured speakers for the free event include USA Rice Federation CEO Betsy Ward and MSU Extension agricultural economist Larry Falconer. R&E Center researchers will discuss rice agronomy, economics, entomology, pathology, breeding and weed control.
“Compared to last year, the state’s rice acres are down, but there are still many decisions that local producers must make to remain profitable,” said Extension rice and soil fertility agronomist Bobby Golden. “We are also helping farmers make informed decisions on factors that will affect their rice farms next year.”
A rice producer social hour will be held at the Delta Council’s conference room following the event.
The field day is cosponsored by the Mississippi Farm Bureau, Mississippi Rice Promotion Board, Mississippi Rice Council and Delta Council.
