Everything Garden Expo returns to MSU in March
MISSISSIPPI STATE -- Winter may still be here, but spring will be ushered in early this year at a garden event at Mississippi State University.
The Starkville Area Arts Council will team up with MSU to present the third annual “Everything Garden Expo” March 5-6 at the Mississippi Horse Park in Starkville.
Show hours are 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 5, and from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 6. Admission is $5 per person, and children 6 and under are admitted free. About 60 booths have already been reserved by vendors who will be showing and selling equipment, plant materials and garden art.
The event will show both hobby and professional gardeners the latest in products and growing techniques. The Expo features seminars led by the region’s leading garden authorities, including radio’s “Garden Mama” Nellie Neal, who will discuss “Vegetable Gardening Wisdom,” and Lelia Kelly, who will present “Latest Tips from the World of Herbs.”
Horticultural authorities will give presentations on garden design, gardening with the entire family, growing daffodils, organic gardening, controlling pests and container gardening. There will also be activities for children and cooking demonstrations using bounty from the garden.
“This is Northeast Mississippi’s premier garden show, featuring a broad array of vendors. As its popularity has grown, we’ve added more booths and new vendors to the show each year,” said Emily Jones, who is co-chairing the event with Ruth Josey and Judy Lofton.
“Mississippi State University is widely known for its horticulture and landscape architecture programs,” Jones said. “This is the perfect place to conduct a regional garden Expo that will appeal to gardeners from throughout the mid-South.”
Other contributing sponsors include the MSU Extension Service, the Mississippi Horse Park, Starkville School District’s Family Centered Program, the Mississippi Arts Commission, the Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station and the Greater Starkville Development Partnership.
