New garden expo offers 'all things'
MISSISSIPPI STATE -- Mississippi gardeners will have an opportunity to attend a new exposition honoring plants and all things related to them at an event the first weekend in March.
The Everything Garden Expo will take place March 7 and 8 at the Mississippi Horse Park, located on Mississippi State University’s South Farm. Doors will be open from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday and from noon until 5 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $5, and children 7 and younger are admitted free.
The Starkville Area Arts Council and MSU are organizing the event honoring the art of gardening. The expo will offer regional hobby gardeners and seasoned horticulture authorities the latest product information and gardening techniques.
“We will present Northeast Mississippi’s premier garden show featuring outstanding speakers, a broad array of vendors showing their new garden wares, and seminars and activities for all ages,” said Jane Loveless, co-chair for the event.
Speakers and seminar leaders scheduled include garden columnist Norman Winter, radio personality Nellie Neal (Garden Mama), daylily authority Milo Burnham and Southern garden guru Felder Rushing.
MSU professors will discuss lawns, herbs, vegetable gardening, landscape lighting and ornamentation. Additional speakers will cover roses and container gardening.
The children’s program will offer a Saturday session on flower pot decorating and planting, and a session on child nutrition. A Sunday program on butterflies will be available for young people.
Booth spaces for vendors are available for $150, and sponsorships are available starting at $500. Advertising in the expo program is also available. Interested vendors and sponsors may e-mail Imogene C. Triplett at glovertriplett@aol.com for more information.
“Mississippi State University is widely known for its horticulture and landscape architecture programs,” Loveless said. “This is the perfect place to conduct a garden expo that will appeal to gardeners, both professional and amateur, from throughout the Midsouth.”
Other contributing sponsors include the MSU Extension Service, the Mississippi Horse Park, the Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station and the Greater Starkville Development Partnership.
