MISSISSIPPI STATE -- Cooperative Demonstration Field Days will provide landowners, managers and others with opportunities to learn how to plant and manage dove food plots for legal fields to hunt over during upcoming seasons.

The Dove Field Demonstration Program, sponsored by Mississippi State University’s Extension Service, is designed to teach people legal land preparation methods according to current regulations for migratory birds. Three locations and dates will be available at MSU’s Coastal Plain Experiment Station in Newton on Aug. 13, the Tara Wildlife area north of Vicksburg on Aug. 20 and the Hell Creek Wildlife Management Area near New Albany on Aug. 27.

Enforcement officials from the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will discuss state and federal regulations. Wildlife biologists will provide information about planting recommendations, management, and manipulation of the food plots for attracting doves and other wildlife.

Each field day will provide participants additional information on recreational uses for land and their income potential. There are no registration fees. All sessions will begin promptly at 9 a.m. and last until noon.

During the field day at Tara Wildlife, participants will be offered a sponsored lunch, followed by a round of sporting clays.
