Go Green: How to Simplify Gardening
Intimidated by gardening? Yes?
Our advice: start small. You don’t have to commit to a half-acre garden. Try planting a few of your favorite vegetables in containers.
While you’ll need to water daily, especially in the heat of summer, weeding is less of a chore. But you can make watering easy by putting the containers right on your deck or patio.
Gary Bachman, host of Extension’s Southern Gardening, grows lots of vegetables in containers. Read his column about it.
Bachman also recommends growing ornamentals in containers. It’s a quick way to add a splash of color and interest to your landscape and the containers can be moved when inclement weather approaches. Read more about growing ornamentals in contaners here.
