4-H Contest Raises ATV Safety Awareness
Mississippi State University Extension 4-H members participate in the hands-on portion of an ATV Safety RiderCourse as Greg Biggs, 4-H agent in Madison County looks on.
Abbye Buchanan, of Florence, is the 2018 winner of the Mississippi State University Extension Service 4-H ATV Safety PSA Contest. Buchanan is 11 years old and has been a member of 4-H for 3 years.
The contest is held every year to help raise ATV safety awareness. 4-H’ers are encouraged to come up with a PSA that addresses ATV safety, including protective riding gear, safe riding environments, and obeying regulations.
The 4-H ATV Safety Program offers a half-day, hands-on rider course that teaches young people basic ATV pre-ride care, local regulations, proper safety equipment, and riding skills, including riding on hills, emergency maneuvers, and how to handle obstacles.
