Flowers don’t have to be big to make an impact in your landscape. Let’s take a look at a few plants that have small flowers but have a mighty garden presence. Every landscape needs Superbells, these are like regular calibrachoa only on steroids. These are tough plants with good summer heat tolerance in containers, hanging baskets and massed in landscape beds. Here’s a few good choices. Grape Punch is a tough selection with purple flowers having a large, deep plummy-black eye. Tangerine Punch are striking with flowers featuring deep tangerine-orange petals, surrounding a deep burgundy-orange eye. Lemon Slice is bright, cheerful yellow with a white pinwheel center pattern. Saffron flowers have golden yellow petals and thin red artist highlights in the center. Melampodium is tough and literally bursts forth with abundant one-half inch yellow to golden daisy, star-like flowers. It’s a non-stop bloomer from summer until frost. Melampodium will look great when planted in full sun. Scaevola Top Pot is an summer flowering plant that will sprawl and crawl with two foot diameter growth. The foliage is coarse toothed while the 1-inch wide fan-shaped flowers appear in mass freely flowering from spring through summer into the fall. This plant with its growth habit is the perfect choice for hanging baskets and container gardening. Choosing summer color is no small task, but is easy with these small flowers.
