Level 3 Sew, Let’s Design a Garment!
Things to Learn
- Add to the construction skills notebook.
- Add to fabric collection notebook.
- Continue to add equipment to your sewing box.
- Put in a zipper.
- Set in sleeves.
- Apply a waistband.
- Line a vest.
- Construct and apply a collar.
- Trim and grade points.
- Press curves and points.
- Make a series of buttonholes.
- Make a patch pocket.
- Apply shoulder pads.
Projects to Sew
- Skirt, shorts, pants
- Blouse, shirt, top, or vest
- Unlined jacket
- Jumper or dress
Construct a "Garment" for the Contest
This level will include some of these construction skills on the garment: zipper, set-in sleeves, applied waistband, lined vest, collar, buttons and buttonholes.
- Jumper (modeled with purchased or constructed top).
- Dress skirt, pants, or shorts with a top (top could be a vest, blouse, or unlined jacket).
Learn these Skills for the Contest
- Skills from Levels 1 and 2.
- Identify parts of a serger.
- Using the pattern envelope, identify how much fabric, interfacing, and notions are needed for a view.
- Judge a class of four samples (zipper, collar, pocket, waistband, darts) and give oral reasons.
