Junior Master Wellness Volunteer
Health Topics
What are some of the health topics taught in the program?
The curriculum contains eleven lesson modules focused on the following topics: privacy, health literacy, & cultural competency; hypertension & diabetes; obesity & healthy eating; oral health; mental health wellness; asthma awareness; bullying prevention; heat & sun safety awareness; substance misuse prevention; functional foods; and teen relationships. This curriculum serves as a tool for sharing health messages in your community and will enhance the classroom and lab knowledge if taught in a school setting. An optional lesson module focused on illness & injury (I2) simulation can be an implementation guide for teachers. The (I2) simulation was created with the goal of increasing empathy through simulating prevalent illnesses and injuries found across the South, specifically in Mississippi. The JrMWV training can be delivered to health science classes, family and consumer science classes, mayor’s health councils, 4-H groups, or other organizations that have an interest in promoting a culture of wellness.
