Peas and Beans
Why aren't English peas grown in Mississippi?
In the early part of this century, Mississippi was a major supplier of fresh English peas to the nation. A combination of less available labor, unfavorable weather, and the development of western growing areas has reduced the growing of English peas in Mississippi to a local market situation. The major limiting factor is the unfortunate occurrence of warm periods during January and February.
