  • BEEF AND PORK COOKOUT CONTESTS The State Beef and Pork Cookout Contests will be held on July 22, 1999, at the State Fairgrounds in Jackson. You should have received brochures with additional information about these contests. If you didn't receive the brochures, give us a call (662-325-3515).

  • MINI LAMB CAMP There will be a Mini Lamb Camp held at the Neshoba County Fair on July 29th at 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. This is a free camp; however, registration is required. Contact Nancy Strickland (601-857-2284) for registration and additional information.

  • THE CATCH PEN The Cattle Business in Mississippi magazine is accepting pictures for its new page called "The Catch Pen." The managing editor, Doug Wilcox, is looking for pictures which represent farm life. If you have or know of any young photographers, have them send their pictures with a return address to Doug Wilcox, MCA, 680 Monroe Street, Suite A, Jackson, MS 39202. This would be a great opportunity for 4-H'ers to practice their photography skills and possibly get their pictures published.

  • FALL LIVESTOCK SHOWS The fall livestock show season is beginning with county fairs across the state, and many are scheduled in August through December. Now is the time to be getting everything in order. Be sure beef and dairy cattle registration papers are in order (original copy in 4-H'ers name, etc.). Remind your 4-H'ers about the various management practices needed in preparation for the show and health regulations. Also, remind them that different shows may have slight differences in their rules and regulations.

Listed below are County Livestock Shows, dates, and contact persons of each for additional information.
