STARKVILLE, Miss. -- Landowners, foresters and loggers interested in cost-effective reforestation strategies are invited to attend a Natural Forest Regeneration Workshop in Noxubee County.
The May 12 workshop at Lake Forest Ranch will focus on managing costs and planning for the future through natural regeneration, an approach that can establish productive timber stands while reducing initial investment. Sessions will cover both pine and hardwood systems and combine classroom instruction with an outdoor field component.
Morning lectures will introduce key principles of natural regeneration, including management practices used by Barge Timberlands, invasive species control and regeneration strategies for southern pine and hardwood stands.
During the afternoon field session, participants will observe on-site management techniques and learn methods for evaluating successful reforestation.
The workshop will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Lake Forest Ranch, located at 5326 Lake Forest Road in Macon. The registration fee is $10 for landowners and $40 for foresters and loggers to receive continuing education credits.
Four Category A Board of Registration for Foresters continuing forestry education hours and Category I Professional Logging Manager hours will be available for foresters and professional loggers.
Participants should wear boots and appropriate outdoor clothing for the field session.
Registration is required by May 8. To register, contact the Noxubee County Extension Office at 662-726-5723 or register online at msuext.ms/92ExnX.
