Ms. Pennie previously participated in the Nurturing Homes Initiative program where she gained quality skills and knowledge to help enhance her family child care business. She loved to see the children smile and interact with the Nurturing Homes Initiative staff and looks forward to being a part of the program again. Nurturing Homes Initiative improves the quality of early educational experiences through one-on-one mentoring, improving the learning environment, and delivering research-based information.

Ms. Shelby is an unlicensed in-home family child care provider from Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Ms. Shelby previously participated in the Nurturing Homes Initiative program to enhance her skills and her family child care business. She is excited to participate in the program again now that it has relaunched. Nurturing Homes Initiative offers providers incentives, including opportunities for educational advancement and developmentally appropriate learning materials and books.

Mrs. Weatherby started her journey as an unlicensed in-home family child care provider. In 2004, she began participating in the MSU Extension Nurturing Homes Initiative project to enhance her skills and her business. As her in-home family child care business grew to meet the needs of her community, she successfully opened the first licensed child care center in Sallis, MS, in 2022.
