Longstanding volunteer clubs adopt new name

The Mississippi Homemaker Volunteers, begun in 1918, changed its name after 108 years of service. Now the Mississippi Community Volunteers, the local clubs located in all 82 counties across the state are looking to attract even more volunteers.
MCV’s mission, to strengthen families through education and community involvement, remains unchanged. Members offer community service to address a variety of family and community needs by delivering nutrition, literacy, and exercise information, as well as personal development and family budgeting and finance services, just to name a few.
Another important role for MCV members is supporting state-level charities, often by making and delivering traditional crafts, including pillowcases and blankets, and by gathering and distributing school supply bags for children. MCV also participates in and leads fundraising efforts for specific community needs.
For decades, these volunteers have contributed tens of thousands of service hours annually to individuals, families, and charities across Mississippi. MCV is overseen by the Mississippi State University Extension Service.
