Extension for Real Life

What is the TIPPS Program?

Parenting is hard. That’s for sure. But does it seem like nurturing and protecting your children in today’s world is harder than what your parents experienced when you were a child?

If you are looking for support, training, and/or assistance to strengthen your family and protect your children, our Mississippi State University Extension Service TIPPS program can help. You’ll learn how to make the most of family time, manage digital device use, talk with your children about difficult subjects, and much more.

What is TIPPS?

TIPPS stands for Trauma-Informed Parenting and Professional Strategies. This partnership program between MSU Extension, the MSU School of Human Services, and the Mississippi Department of Human Services provides resources to help families across the state.

Family well-being is the primary objective of TIPPS. Resources include, but are not limited to:

Support Materials for Families of Children with Developmental Disorders

These resources have been gathered to give families a jumping-off point for getting information, as well as financial, community, and educational assistance.

Stress Management

The TIPPS stress management resources apply to multiple areas, including coping with grief and loss. These resources help with self-care and the care of others.

Positive Parenting Strategies

These resources are for parents aiming to positively discipline their children. With responses and examples to help guide parents, these tools are helpful for building children up.

Economic Security

Families can use this information to find resources to help with financial needs, including utilities, food, rent, and job training.

TIPPS also provides training for parents and professionals looking to learn more about trauma-informed strategies. The TIPPS web page lists several training programs, detailing their intended audience. Trainings aid in education, awareness, and implementation of strategies.

You can find several publications to help you learn more about the nurturing, financial, growth, and developmental needs of your children on our website

TIPPS provides so much more. For more information or to get help, check out the TIPPS website
