How much yield can I expect per plant?

Yields vary widely among growers, depending on the experience and management skills of the grower. Average yield for growers in Mississippi is 30 to 35 pounds per plant annually. This number applies whether the crop is split between a spring and a fall crop, or if one long crop is grown. Growing through the summer is not recommended due to excessively hot temperatures. Bear in mind that while growers in other states have achieved yields over 50 pounds per plant, and some of the huge (over 40 acre) ranges claim 75 to 100 pounds per plant, that is very unlikely for small growers in Mississippi in our hot, humid climate who lack the sophisticated computer controlled environment. While we have plenty of sunny days, our climatic limitations are both the high temperature and high humidity during much of the growing season.
