4-H Shooting Sports

Muzzleloading

A young man wearing a white shirt and black cap, aims and shoots a muzzleloader causing smoke to fill the air.

Smokepole and frontstuffer are just a couple of the names used to describe this fun and exciting discipline. You will learn how to use this firearm as well as how to clean and care for it.

The muzzleloader discipline consists of black powder rifles that are loaded from the barrel and discharged by means of a percussion cap or other primitive ignition system such as flint.  Youth may begin participation in this discipline at the 4-H age of 10.
