Garden events remain on spring calendars
STARKVILLE, Miss. -- With planting time approaching quickly, Mississippi gardeners are in the middle of their “planning season.”
Spring garden expos are underway with three major events remaining in Jackson, Starkville and New Albany.
Gary Bachman, a horticulturist with the Mississippi State University Extension Service, said March and April are good months for Mississippians to plan their 2015 gardens.
“These are great opportunities for home gardeners to get inspired to plant the newest trees, shrubs, and flowering annuals and perennials for the home landscape and garden,” he said. “Each garden show features daily seminars presented by some of the leading horticulture and landscape professionals in the Southeast.”
The Garden Extravaganza will take place March 20-22 at the Mississippi Trade Mart, located at 1207 Mississippi St., in Jackson. MSU Extension Service staff will be on hand to answer questions and test soil.
Admission is $6 for adults and free for children 15 and younger. Parking is free. Friday and Saturday show hours are from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.; Sunday, 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. For more information on the Jackson show, go to the Mississippi Nursery and Landscape Association’s website at http://msnla.org/msnla/about-our-shows/.
The Everything Home and Garden Expo will take place March 27-28 at the Mississippi Horse Park, located just south of Starkville at 869 East Poorhouse Road. Admission is $5 per person, and children under 6 are admitted free. Expo hours are 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. on March 27, and from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on March 28.
