Agriculture and forestry are a major component of Mississippi’s economic base. In 2009 alone, agriculture and forestry production and processing sectors directly accounted for 118,303 jobs paying $2.9 billion in wages and salaries (Table 1). In addition, agriculture and forestry related sectors also directly accounted for $21.4 billion in sales, with a value-added generation of $5.5 billion.
