One of the most important factors in developing plans for the future of our communities or businesses is the availability and understanding of data. In Deller’s triangle (Deller, 2010), shown below, data is the basis for moving up a hierarchy to achieve innovation and a better quality of life. Gathering data is not the be-all and end-all, but it is a necessary place to start for understanding the economics and social factors present in an area.
