Surveys of Mississippi cow-calf operations indicate that mature cows and bulls make up 85 percent and 89 percent of the cattle in breeding herds on operations with fewer than 100 head and greater than 250 head, respectively. Returns from sales of market cows and bulls comprise a significant portion of a beef cattle operation’s income.
