• 4-H Scholarships-

4-H currently offers the following scholarships:

Eligibility:

The 4-H scholarship program recognizes those 4-H members who have been successful in their 4-H project experiences. All of the scholarships will be reviewed and the winners are selected based on the specific criteria set in place by donors. Keep in mind that each scholarship offered has its own eligibility criteria. The amount of each scholarship is set according to the current market interest rates. The deadline for all of the 4-H scholarships is April 1 of the current year. 

Family and Consumer Sciences

Quick Bites program are offered through the Mississippi State University Extension Service and provide information in a wide variety of topics through interactive video. The programs are held during lunch (12-1) on Thursdays. Please call the extension office to sign-up.

Description: Let’s learn the basics of using Ancestry.com and FamilySearch.org, including starting your tree, employing search strategies to get the best results, and taking advantage of free resources.

Title: Hazardous Preparedness: To-Do List

Presenter: Anne Howard Hilbun-Benoit, Extension Instructor, Extension Center for Government and Community Development

Description: We all know that hazardous situations are bound to happen. Anne Howard will focus on personal preparedness so that we can be ready when the need arises. The concepts discussed will include planning, emergency kits, situational awareness, and calling for help.

 

Walk-A-Weigh Adults

Community Development Incorporation (CDI) and Richton Group Home will be participating in the Walk-A-Weigh program each month to increase knowledge about nutrition and improve cooking skills.

Childcare Professional Development Hours

MISSISSIPPI STATE UNIVERSITY EXTENSION SERVICE PERRY COUNTY WILL NOW BE OFFERING CHILDCARE TRAINING HOURS FOR CHILDCARE AND DAYCARE STAFF.

THE CARE TO READ CURRICULUM WILL FOCUS ON THE FOLLOWING:

• BRINGING LITERACY TO LIFE IN THE CLASSROOM (2 HOURS)
• CREATING A PRINT-RICH ENVIRONMENT (2 HOURS)
• BOOKS YOU CAN COUNT ON (2 HOURS)
• COOKING UP SOME FUN (2 HOURS)
• TODDLER ART (2 HOURS)

Tummy Safe

Q: What is Tummy Safe©?

A: Tummy Safe© is a Food Manager's Certification Course for Child Care Providers. The 6 module food safety curriculum includes food storage, serving, cross contamination, diapering, and many other topics specific to child care providers. Six contact hours are awarded for completion of the curriculum. An 80% on the Certification exam is required for certification. Certification lasts for five years. Take Tummy Safe© online!!!

For $25, you will be emailed a link to the course. Once you have purchased the first access for $25 you have the option of adding 2 more for $5 each. You can complete the course on computer and Android phones but it is NOT compatible with IPhones or IPads.

Q: I’m done with the online curriculum. Am I certified Tummy Safe© now?

A: No, not yet. You must still pass the Tummy Safe© exam with a score of at least 80 percent in order to be certified. You may order a Tummy Safe© exam using a credit card or you may request a Tummy Safe© exam using a money order or certified check.

Once exam payment is received, your local proctor will call to schedule an exam date and time. Most exam dates can be scheduled within 30 days of exam payment, often within 2 weeks of payment.

ServSafe

ServSafe classes will be offered at Perry County Mississippi State University Extension Services:

• Tuesday, May 7, 2019 from 8:30 a.m. - until/ Wednesday, May 8, 2019 9:00 a.m.
• Please go online at MSU Cares under Perry County and register for the class/ pay fee $150 which includes the book and scantron. Please see website for registration deadlines.

Please go to MSU Cares, 4-H, and volunteers in order to become a registered volunteer. Volunteers will have to complete the 4-H Background Check and 4-H Application Packet. Please call the extension office if you have any questions about becoming a 4-H volunteer leader.
