Master Gardener Program (MG) offered by Mississippi State University Extension in Desoto County. We feel that it is an excellent volunteer training program and a wonderful opportunity for people that are interested in gardening and improving their community.
This is a program that is fun and engaging. You will have the opportunity to volunteer with a group that shares your interest in gardening and to exchange plants as well as ideas. There will be a $100 charge to cover costs of materials, notebooks, one-year membership in the state MG Association, and supplies for the class. There is also your commitment of 40 hours volunteering on Extension MG projects during the first year.
Topics covered: Soils, botany, lawns, ornamentals, fruits and nuts, propagation, and more.
The classes will cover topics; botany, entomology, diseases, ornamental plants, landscape design and much more. As a Master Gardener Volunteer Intern, you must have a desire to share the knowledge of gardening with the community as an Extension Volunteer. In order to accomplish this goal Master Gardeners must agree to communicate only unbiased, research-based information
to the public. This information will be covered in class and Master Gardener trainees are expected to attend all sessions of the training. We will meet every Tuesday and Thursday starting January 28, 2020 at 8:30 am to 12:30 pm until February 27, 2020. The ten sessions will meet at the Extension Service office which is located at 3260 Highway 51 South in Hernando.
Please contact our office for a MG application by January 20 to reserve your place in the training.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact our office at 662-469-8480.
